Invented in Germany around 1900 for use in single shot and double barrelled rifles, this almost staight through cartridge shoots a heavy 18.5 gram bullet at around 2,350 feet per second. This heavy hitter remains very popular in Europe for large game, wild boar, moose and dangerous large animals. The round is also popular in Namibia due to the German influence in this area, and is seen as an alternative to the .375 Holland & Holland which was developed in the UK as a hunting cartridge. The casing is long and thin, with almost no shoulder, measuring about 94mm in overall length with a diameter of approximately 12mm. In older rifle cartridges, the thinner shoulder and the rimmed base made ejection of spent cases and reloading easier. The cartridge usually runs at lower pressures than a modern round and results in a relatively comfortable recoil, given the size and weight of the bulllet tip. Fitted with a jacketed soft point bullet befitting a classic hunting round. Price is for one round only. Rounds may only ship with courier or Hermes.
