The .45-70 Government cartridge was developed by Springfield Armory in 1873. It is also known as the .45 Government. This centrefire cartridge was standardised for use wtih the M1873 and M1884 Springfield rifles. It replaced earlier cartridges, such as the .50-70 which were used in a variety of rifles including sleeved muskets, and percussion cap rifles. The .45-70 cartridge was used in the Spanish-American War and remained in use into the 20th century. This calibre remains popular because of its association with the early US Army and Navy, and as a big game cartridge. Price is for ONE round only. To restore shiny finish, use a conventional metal cleaner or toothpaste. Please note, inert ammunition may only be shipped outside the UK using courier services, not standard airmail.
