.22 Savage Hi Power Inert Round with Soft Point Tip

An old North American hunting cartridge dating from 1912, the .22 Savage round was designed to be used in the Savage Model 99 lever action rifle and was renowned at the time for its high power that could deliver a 'shock' against even large and dangerous game. The case had a large powder capacity and was necked down to accept a smaller diameter .227 inch bullet head. This combination made it one of the most powerful hunting cartridges in the 1920s and its reputation was cemented when the famous elephant hunter WDM Bell used it against forest buffalo in Africa. The cartridge was gradually superseded by other, larger capacity cartridges and was considered obsolete by the 1960s. It is generally seen as a vintage round in the USA, although it is still used in some combination guns in Europe for deer control and gamekeeping. Fitted with soft point head. Price is for one round only. Rounds must travel by courier.
