38 40 Winchester Inert Round Lead Flat Nose

The 38-40, 38 Winchester or .38 WCF is a resurgent Cowboy Action round which was originally introduced into the market by Winchester in 1874. It was originally designed for use in rifles, but popular revolver makers such as Colt and Merwin&Hulbert adopted the round for use in handguns and it is thought of largely as a pistol round today. It is a .40 calibre case, bottlenecked down to shoot .400 inch bullets. The bullet head is a lead round nose flat to replicate type of bullet head shot through the original antique western firearms. This was due to the use of black powder and the weaker metals used in the manufacture of firearms of the day. The ballistic performance of the black powder 38-40 cartridge is similar to that of the smokeless .40 S&W cartridge today. The 38-40 inert round has no propellant and deactivated primer, and consists of only the lead head and brass case. Please note, price is for ONE round only. Inert rounds may only be shipped outside the UK with courier (eg UPS).

Extras available for this dummy round:

An new and unindented brass cup to fit into the primer pocket to give the appearance of a new, unfired round: Large Dummy Primer
Removal of the deactivated, inert primer from the round, leaving a hole or holes in the base that can be inspected to prove the round is inert and free from explosives: Depriming of Round
